Can I speak to your Star Trek tangent? Although I didn’t watch it when it was first on, Deep Space Nine was the first Star Trek series that really interested me. Since the setting of most episodes is on the DS9 space station, we become invested in the fates of Bajor, the planet DS9 orbits, and Cardassia, the recent occupier of Bajor. A condition of Cardassian withdrawal was that the Federation would take over operation of DS9. This series has a very different premise and feel compared to the starship-oriented adventure/exploration series. Star Trek’s captains generally exemplify “the power of possibility” and DS9’s Captain Benjamin Sisko is no exception.
